Wynn Las Vegas
The Wynn Las Vegas high-limit baccarat room has the highest ratio of marble to carpet of any casino I've visited outside Macau, and the silence in there is the particular silence of very large sums of money sitting completely still.
TL;DR
- Opened April 2005; Steve Wynn's signature Strip property at 3131 Las Vegas Blvd
- Punto Banco from $50 on the main casino floor; the Sky Casino at Encore (63rd floor) for invitation-only high-limit; private rooms for those with credit lines starting at $100,000
- 24 hours; no membership; minimum age 21
Annabel's take
The Wynn Las Vegas high-limit baccarat room has the highest ratio of marble to carpet of any casino I've visited outside Macau, and the silence in there is the particular silence of very large sums of money sitting completely still. I've been in there twice: once as a guest of a player with a credit line well above what I'd describe in print, and once by walking up to the high-limit desk and requesting access, which worked because I was dressed correctly and asked with the right degree of confidence.
The Sky Casino at Encore is the serious venue. It's on the 63rd floor of the Encore Tower, which is Wynn's extension property opened in 2008. The Sky Casino operates by invitation and requires both a credit arrangement and a prior relationship with the Wynn host team. Floor-to-ceiling views of the Strip. The game is Punto Banco; the stakes are significant; the cards are dealt with the care you'd expect at those numbers.
Steve Wynn opened this property in April 2005, eighteen months after selling Mirage Resorts (and with it the Bellagio) to MGM. The Wynn Las Vegas was his attempt to do at higher standards what he'd done at the Mirage. The property's design vocabulary involves natural light, botanical installations, and a refusal to adopt the maximalist neon aesthetic of its neighbours. The golf course that occupied the back of the property has since been replaced by other development.
Wynn resigned as chairman of Wynn Resorts in February 2018 following sexual misconduct allegations. He sold his stake in the company in 2018. Wynn Resorts continued operating both the Las Vegas and Macau properties under new leadership.
On the standard casino floor, minimums at Wynn trend higher than the Strip average. Table games typically start at $25 to $50; during peak hours the baccarat floor moves to $50 as the entry point. There are mid-range sessions when $25 tables appear, but they're not the norm at this property.
What you'll find at the baccarat tables
Standard Punto Banco at Wynn Las Vegas: 1.06% edge on Banker, 1.24% on Player, 14.36% on Tie. Five percent commission on Banker wins. Main floor minimums start at $50 (confirm at table; minimums fluctuate with demand). The high-limit salon off the Tower Suites lobby provides a more intimate setting for players with established credit.
The Sky Casino at Encore operates at limits that begin at $25,000 per hand (blackjack figures cited suggest similar levels for baccarat), with flexibility for established relationships. Private gaming suites for very high-roller play are arranged through the casino credit team. The dealer stands on soft 17 in the Wynn high-limit salon, which is a blackjack note; baccarat rules remain fixed.
Road maps are used by the Asian player base at Wynn's baccarat floor; the casino's significant Asian clientele, particularly visitors connected to the Macau junket networks, brought the full five-road system with them. Confirm the specific road display with the dealer at the table.
Getting in
The Wynn Las Vegas casino is open 24 hours. No membership required for the standard casino floor. Minimum age 21. The address is 3131 Las Vegas Blvd S; valet and self-park available off the Strip. There's no strict dress code for the main floor, but the Wynn runs smart casual by default and the high-limit areas have a higher expectation in practice, even if not posted formally.
Access to the Sky Casino at Encore and the private gaming rooms is by invitation through the Wynn host team. Contact: (702) 770-3100 for credit arrangements.
The neighbourhood
The Wynn and Encore sit on the northern half of the central Strip, between Treasure Island to the north and the Fashion Show Mall. The Palazzo and Venetian are immediately north (separated only by the casino drive approaches). The Las Vegas Convention Center is a five-minute walk east.
For the Wynn's clientele, the in-house restaurant offering is sufficient for most evenings: Lakeside Trattoria, SW Steakhouse, Wing Lei (the Macau sister to the Wing Lei at Wynn Macau). The property runs late into the casino floor rather than out into the Strip.
