Annabel's take

Galaxy Macau presents a particular challenge for a profile: it doesn't stop changing. When it opened in May 2011 it was two hotel towers and a casino. By 2015 it had a Ritz-Carlton and a JW Marriott. By 2023 it had added the Galaxy Arena, the largest indoor entertainment venue in Macau, the Raffles, and the Andaz. At the time of writing, Phase 4 is under construction with a planned 2027 delivery. The baccarat floor is somewhere inside this expanding complex, and locating it requires some navigation.

The casino itself is accessible 24 hours. The main mass gaming floor runs Commission-Free Baccarat alongside several other table games, with a minimum structure that reflects Galaxy's positioning at the top of the Macau mass-market. I watched the tables at Galaxy Macau at a Thursday lunchtime and found them occupied at a rate I wouldn't expect of a London casino on a Friday evening. The mix of players was predominantly mainland Chinese and Hong Kong visitors; the road maps were consulted with the intensity of a navigator checking charts mid-ocean.

Galaxy's GEG Membership Rewards scheme is considered by many regular Macau visitors to be the best player card programme in Cotai. The tiered structure (Gold, Platinum, Black, Diamond) rewards rolling turnover; the card works across Galaxy Macau, Starworld Macau, and Broadway Macau. Points can be redeemed against hotel rooms, dining, and retail.

The high-limit Pavilion South area houses the serious private play. Baccarat from HK$3,000 in that section; the atmosphere shifts from the busy mass floor to something considerably more contained. It's not the full private-room experience of a Wynn Macau VIP suite, but it's several removes from the main floor.

What you'll find at the baccarat tables

Galaxy Macau runs Commission-Free Baccarat as the primary variant. Won Dealer bets totalling 6 pay 50% (i.e., the house pays half-stake on a Banker-6 win rather than the full amount, equivalent to a push in the standard Commission-Free format). This is a slightly different implementation from the Banker-6 push seen at other properties; the edge calculation shifts marginally but remains in the same range as standard Commission-Free at approximately 1.46% on Banker.

Standard Baccarat in the Pavilion South high-limit area runs from HK$3,000. Mass-floor Commission-Free from HK$1,000. Live Gaming electronic baccarat available from HK$50. Road maps displayed in the standard Macau five-road format. All five roads (Bead Road, Big Road, Big Eye Boy, Small Road, Cockroach Road) are derived from the primary Bead Road data.

Getting in

Galaxy Macau is open 24 hours. No membership required for the mass gaming floor. Minimum age 21; valid passport or ID required on entry. The address is Avenida de Cotai, Cotai City, Macau SAR. Complimentary shuttle buses run to the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, Taipa Ferry Terminal, and Macau International Airport. The Venetian Macao is to the west; City of Dreams and Broadway Macau are adjacent.

Access to the Pavilion South high-limit area requires a player card and minimum buy-in at the discretion of the floor manager.

The neighbourhood

The Galaxy Macau complex is almost its own neighbourhood at this point. Within the resort: eight hotels, over 50 restaurants, a Grand Resort Deck with the world's longest skytop aquatic adventure river ride (which I have not used, and don't expect to), the Galaxy Arena for major entertainment events, and a retail promenade second in size only to the Venetian Macao's.

Outside: Taipa Village is accessible by taxi in approximately ten minutes and is worth the trip for genuine Macanese food at prices that do not reflect the integration of a five-star hotel. Broadway Macau, Galaxy's entertainment and hotel annex, is directly adjacent to the main complex.
