The first thing you register at the Venetian Macao is the ceiling. It's painted to look like a Venetian sky, complete with drifting clouds and the suggestion of a late afternoon in the Veneto, which is a peculiar thing to find above you when you're in Cotai at half past midnight. The second thing you register is the scale. The gaming floor is approximately 550,000 square feet on a single level, and it takes a genuine minute to walk from one end to the other.

I've played at the Venetian Macao three times, and each time I've found the Commission-Free Baccarat tables somewhere different within the floor plan. The casino has its own internal geography; sections have names, and the baccarat area shifts between visit windows because the floor is large enough to expand and contract according to demand. During Lunar New Year and the major Hong Kong public holidays, tables that sat unused on a Tuesday in October are running with standing room behind them.

The Commission-Free Baccarat at the Venetian Macao works as it does elsewhere: the house drops the 5% commission on Banker wins in exchange for pushing the hand when the Banker total is 6 and wins. The player still receives back the stake on a Banker 6, but receives no profit on it. The edge on Banker in this format is approximately 1.46%, slightly higher than the 1.06% in standard Punto Banco, but many players prefer the cash-flow simplicity of not tracking commission across a long shoe.

As of recent visits, live electronic baccarat is available from HK$20, making the Venetian one of the more accessible mass-floor venues in Cotai for smaller-budget players. The table games themselves have a HK$500 minimum on Commission-Free Baccarat at the time of writing. Confirm current minimums at the cage; they move with demand.

Sands China operates the Venetian Macao under a gaming concession from the Macau government, regulated by the DICJ. The floor is, by any metric, the largest single-span casino in the world.

What you'll find at the baccarat tables

Commission-Free Baccarat is the primary variant at the Venetian Macao mass floor. The Banker 6 push rule: when the Banker wins with a total of 6, the hand pushes and the player's stake is returned rather than paid at 0.95:1. The edge on Banker in this format is 1.46%; on Player it remains 1.24%; on Tie 14.36%.

Standard Punto Banco tables also run alongside. Road maps displayed electronically cover all five major derived roads: Bead Road, Big Road, Big Eye Boy, Small Road, Cockroach Road. The floor volume means that at peak times, dozens of baccarat tables are running simultaneously and the road maps fill with data at speed.

Getting in

The Venetian Macao is open 24 hours. No membership required; minimum age is strictly 21. Valid passport or ID required on entry. Smart casual dress on the gaming floor; this is enforced with more latitude than the high-limit rooms. The address is Estrada da Baia de N. Senhora da Esperanca, s/n, Taipa, Macau SAR. The Venetian is connected by covered walkway and pedestrian bridge to The Parisian and Four Seasons on the Cotai Strip; the Galaxy Macau and City of Dreams are within walking distance.

Complimentary shuttle buses run to the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, the Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal, and the Macau International Airport.

The neighbourhood

The Cotai Strip is dense with integrated resorts: the Parisian and Four Seasons directly adjacent, Galaxy Macau five minutes east, City of Dreams five minutes west. The walkable connectivity between these properties is one of the defining features of Cotai versus the older Macau peninsula; you can walk between four major casino floors without encountering outdoor weather.

Taipa Village is accessible by taxi in around ten minutes, and offers the most convincing Macanese food on the island: African chicken, pork chop bun, and a version of egg tart that the integrated resorts have been trying to replicate for fifteen years.
